Which statement explains why the Confederacy did not draft slaves and free blacks into the army?

Initially, the Confederate army had no interest in drafting slaves and free blacks into the army. One of the reasons was that the South had an enormous demand for labour, which even the slaves could barely fulfill. Additionally, slaves were seen as property, and slaveowners wanted to protect their property.

However, a stronger reason was fears regarding the arming of slaves. Confederates were afraid that arming slaves was essentially a way to set them free, as they would be much harder to control afterwards. Moreover, if black people turned out to be good soldiers, it would prove that their theory of slavery was wrong.

However, the Confederate army reluctantly admitted black soldiers on March 13, 1865.
