What is the time period called during which the surviving spouse of the insured does not receive Social Security income benefits?

    It's called Blackout period.

    Explanation:

    When a surviving spouse is caring for a child under 16 years old, he/she can receive social security benefits. However, when the youngest child reaches age 16, these benefits stop. The benefit starts again when the surviving spouse reaches age 60.
