What is a likely explanation for the results from cross-sectional studies showing that older people are less likely to score as well as younger subjects on traditional intelligence tests?

    Maybe because the younger still have most of the answers fresh in their minds, such as older people have bigger and more important subjects to think about especially since they've been out of studies a lot longer then the younger people.
