The complex pattern in an experiment were manually tracked by the participants. The pattern includes two segments where on every trail there are random patterns whereas the other segment has the same pattern on every trial. The reports of results by the participants showed that the participants improved more on repeated segments when compared to two random segments. The participants were also not aware the one segment was same on each trial.
