The Axis V in the Diagnostic and Statistical Manual of Mental Disorders (DSM-IV) was a scale rating from 100 (functioning without any symptoms) to 0 (inability to maintain minimal function) that indicated how well the person was functioning. Due to the lack of scientific basis for dividing the disorders in these axes, the DSM-V abolished the multi-axial system.
