    Ok it was important beacause it can travel goods and trade goods faster than roads to the alantic ocean and they used it like a highway to get to places cause remember back then the roads were not as good as today and merchants used it alot to trade wood and so on and so forth

    It is a major trade route for transporting agricultural and industrial products
