Why did European countries want access to the Suez Canal?

    Because suez canal is located in a very strategic location.

    Gaining access to suez canal will connect three continents at the same time (Africa - Europe - Asia).

    With this access, nations could obtain various trading spots to obtain raw materials which will give them competitive advantages.
