It is 6:00 on a Saturday. Leon and Dayan are driving home from work when Dayan says, "We haven't been to that new Italian restaurant yet. Do you want to stop there and eat dinner?" He answers no and drives home as Dayan stares out the window with her arms crossed. An hour later he is watching TV and asks Dayan what is for dinner. She sighs and ignores him. He is totally confused. What difference in communication style did not contribute to Leon's confusion?

He thought since she did not reply to his desire to go home, she was in agreement with him. As a male in the relationship, he should make the decisions. He thought she was asking a genuine question so he gave his opinion. He did not realize her question was actually a request.

As a male in the relationship, he should make the decisions.

    Explanation:

It is likely that the confusion that occured between Dayan and Leon is a consequence of their different communication styles, and not a consequence of the fact that Leon believes he should make all decisions. Leon most likely thought that Dayan was asking whether he had a desire to go, to which he answered "no." As Dayan did not reply, he thought the conversation was over and she was happy with the decision. However, he did not realize the question was actually a request and Dayan wanted him to consider her more.
