    Long ago, France wanted to rule Mexico. This caused a battle to break out in Pueblo, Mexico, on May 5, 1862. The Mexican army fought hard and defeated the French.

    The Mexican president made Cinco de Mayo a holiday. The Mexicans and the french continued fighting for several years until the year 1867.

    In Mexico, people celebrate Cinco de Mayo with dancing and singing. There are also parades and speeches. People also act out the battle of Puebla.
