some answers are:

A) A landlocked area hampers trade with other countries and therefore stifles the economy.

B) A landlocked area means that immigrants had to walk rather than swim to the "new land".

C) A landlocked area means more land to farm so this would have made the area more attractive to settlers.

D) A landlocked area means there is more room for communities and cities so this would have facilitated urban growth.

A closeness to the coast is usually seen as a good thing: it's combined with good trade possibilities, which are beneficial to a country.

I think that the best answer is a) A landlocked area hampers trade with other countries and therefore stifles the economy.

it does mean more farming land, but this might not be more attractive than trade routes.
