The wave energy travels to that direction which is perpendicular to the direction of the disturbance.

    Explanation:

Wave waters are transverse in nature. The movement of the water in up and down motion is known as the disturbance. The wave water moves in that direction that is perpendicular to the direction of the disturbance. Thus in this case the medium is the water. The energy that is released are moved outwards in all the other directions from that source.

If the displacement of the molecules is perpendicular to that direction in which the wave is travelling is called the transverse wave. If the displacement of the molecules is parallel to the direction in which the wave is travelling is called longitudinal wave.
