The answer to the question: Which of the following societies were the first to have permanent residents, would be: Horticultural.

    Explanation:

Before mankind discovered that it was possible for them to harvest the land, and not depend entirely on their environment for survival, hunter-gatherer societies and even pastoral societies, which were among the very first known groups of people that could be called a society, were nomadic. They would move from place to place in search of resources for their animals and for food acquirement. However, it was when people learned about crops, crop rotation, rainfall, and the means to use the land to acquire food, without having to move from place to place, that permanent settlement was made possible. This happened during the formation of horticultural societies.
