Civilization in the desert
Although it's quite a bit of a challenge, people have adopted various means of desert farming in arid areas. Water usage efficiency is the most important factor in these areas.
They reuse the water and also practice desalination and drip irrigation. Many crops like wheat, maize, corn, apples, bell peppers etc can be grown well with less water. Canal systems are developed to meet their water requirements.
Some civilizations used the seasonal floods that occurred during the summer rains and the winter snows to water their crops. These ways, civilizations developed around desert areas.
