When Adenosine triphosphate is broken down inside the cell, energy is provided. Hence, a good example of active transport will then be the action of sodium-potassium pump (known as a transport protein). Many of this protein exist in the cell membrane of nerve cells. In this light, sodium is pumped out of the cells and then potassium is pumped into the cells by this protein.
