There many things that tore the North and South during the 1800's, mainly of economic and political sort.

    Explanation:

During the 1800's, the North and the South were becoming more and more distanced through their ideals and policies. This was creating an ever growing tension between the two sides and the reasons for that were numerous, some being more prominent than others.

One major reason for the tensions was the slavery, with the North supporting abolishing of it, while the South wanting to keep it. The North was heavily industrializing, while the South wasn't and was still based on agriculture. The tariffs too became a big problem, as the South was directly badly influenced by them, while the North was prospering from them. The North was striding toward liberal society, while the South wanted to continue with its conservative policies.
