What motivated the United States to enter into a war in Spain?

    The United States decided to enter into war with Spain in 1898 for a number of reasons including growing public support for the war due to publicity against Spain domestically as well as the suspicious sinking of the USS Maine in the Havana Harbor. These factors eventually drew the US into war against Spain.
