Most states choose a bicameral legislature over a unicameral legislature because 2 houses divide the power in a bicameral legislature. A bicameral legislature has law making capabilities, the 2 houses counterbalance the power of its voters. A bicameral legislature has two law making houses the house of representatives and the senate. In a unicameral legislature, there is only one house and its members are solely elected by the people. The unicameral legislature is believed by some to be more democratic.
