Although the monsoons may bring severe storms, they are considered necessary in India. Why?

India is in many places quite dry; in some there is no rain in the time between around February and July.

Without Monsoons, the ground in those places would dry out and vegetation would become impossible. Monsoons are important for farming; and in some they even make it possible! (as in: it would be a desert without it).
