landmines are very dangerous as they were used as an indirect weapon for military purposes.

    Explanation:

De-mining has received worldwide attention and funding-even from governments that have not signed or ratified the Ottawa Convention, such as the United States-but there is still no comprehensive and coordinated long-term approach to humanitarian assistance. Every month around 800 people are killed and 1,200 maimed by land mines-often the victims are children attracted by their toy-like shapes and colors. A new tragedy occurs every 20 minutes.

Land mines are controversial because they remain dangerous after the conflict in which they were deployed, killing and injuring civilians and rendering land impassable and unusable for decades and in addition, landmines often make the land unusable until the mines are cleared. This means that people who depend on the surrounding region for their livelihoods may have to find alternatives ways of life. Clearing landmines can be painstaking, slow, and very dangerous.
