Boarding School or Prisons are examples of total institution

Total institution can be defined as a place of work or living area whereby a substancial number of individuals are cut off from the community thereby living within thier enclosed space. This approach is usually done inorder to control the group of people and are under special rules and laws when compared to the overall community whereby they are found.
