It was a movement formed by North Carolinian Unionists and other people who wanted peace. But their reasons for peace were more of preserving the historical state of affairs. It was presented by James Leach who was in the Confederate Congress and suggested that by promoting peace will preserve their institutions and beliefs. This was later brought by Governor William Holden during the Reconstruction. All they wanted was to save the Southern way of life.
