Why might citizen journalists have an advantage over professional journalists?

    A citizen journalism is a non-professional journalist who is not employed by a news organization.

    In the age of the Internet, Citizen journalists have mushroomed across the United States.

    Overall, citizen journalists do have certain advantages:

    1. They do not have to adhere to the rules of the corporation they work for.

    2. They can report on niche subjects which many larger corporations might ignore.

    3. A non-traditional form of journalism can be informative, refreshing and entertaining

    However, citizen journalism also provides certain disadvantages:

    1. Unlike professional journalists, they might not be trained property

    2. While still not under the control of a corporation, they can clearly have a bias and an agenda of their own

    3. Low trust factor.
