How can counties in Georgia use home rule?

    Home rule is simply known as local self-government. The core belief of the self-government is local authorities for the countries. Home rule is one of the various recommendations of "good government" organizations which commenced near the end of the nineteenth century and the inception of the twentieth century.

    The Georgia Constitution expressly have the provisions of "home rule" for provinces and districts in Georgia. While county home rule is constitutionally designated, cities may be imparted the same right by the state legislature.

    In both cases the county or city is commissioned to adopt "clearly reasonable ordinances, resolutions, or regulations.

    They are prevented, however, from performing in nine areas: elective offices and salaries, criminal law, taxation, elections, and interviews are not sanctioned by the state law, actions examined by the Georgia Public Service Commission. They have conferred "supplementary powers" in sixteen areas.
