Morrie's childhood was filled with difficult life lessons. His family was poor, his brother was afflicted with polio, and his mother died when he was only eight years old. The family received the news of his mother's death in a telegram sent by the hospital ... Morrie's father couldn't read English, but Morrie could, and he was left to break the tragic news himself. None-the-less, Morrie's childhood molded him into the man he became, a man who appreciated the blessing of life and chose to live when he could have given up.
