    Lawrence Kohlberg's Stages of Moral Development is a system based on an earlier psychologist's work, Jean Piaget. The theory states that moral reasoning is the base for ethical behavior, and that it has six stages. These stages are: 1. Obedience and punishment orientation - How can I avoid punishment or negative stimuli? 2. Self-interest orientation - What's in it for me? Can I pay for a benefit I want? 3. Interpersonal accord and conformity - Acceptance of social norms, or The "good boy/girl attitude" 4. Authority and social-order maintaining orientation - A "Law and order" based morality 5. Social contract orientation - Responsibility to a social contract, ettiquite, PC, etc. 6. Universal ethical principles - A Principled conscience She is in the stage of "Self-interest orientation"
