When bella's new neighbor (who just moved from india) plays her some indian classical music involving a sarod, tabla, and vocals, bella's first reaction is that "it sounds out-of-tune." her new neighbor is slightly offended, thinking to herself, "at least it sounds better than the american pop she listens to." in this case, both parties are making value judgements based on what they are accustomed. what is this called?

    This is called "ethnocentrism".

We can define Ethnocentrism as judging another culture exclusively by the qualities and benchmarks of one's own culture. The people who are Ethnocentric can examine different gatherings in respect to their own particular ethnic culture, particularly compared with dialect, conduct, traditions, and religion.
