What is the justification for harsh sentencing guidelines, like california's "three strikes" law?

    The answer is: deterrence of future crimes

    Three strikes law is used in order to determine whether that person is repeating the same crimes again in the future. If he/she does, the punishment would be higher. This type of three strikes law could be seen in things such as driving violations
