    The first information report (FIR) is an information (complaint) given by a person (orally) to police about the crime.

    Explanation:

    The procedure of filing a First Information Report (FIR) is mentioned or detailed in the section 154 of CPC 1973.

    Under this procedure, it is the duty of the police to the write down the details of the crime when orally given by a person. While it is your right as a person to know that the information given by you is correct and read over to you. Once the writing procedure completed, it must be signed by the person who provided information.
