Malcolm in this situation who is described as a person who believes that happiness and fulfillment can be achieved through the acquisition of material possessions is termed as materialist. Materialists are those individuals who are material buyers. In studies, they are defined as people who value materialistic pursuits and they prefer buying material goods over experiences. Individuals who are materialists in nature are more concerned with material things than with spiritual, intellectual or cultural values. Materialism is said to be closely related to physicalism in Philosophy which views that all that exists here on earth are ultimately physical. Related to the idea that a person lives in simple preoccupation with the material world, as opposed to intellectual or spiritual concepts or to the theory that physical matter is all there is.
