    FALSE

The sanctions are formal punishments adopted by the government to punish other governments or economic agents whose behavior goes beyond democratic, social and economic limits.

For example, the US government has established economic sanctions against Cuba, Iran, North Korea and recently against Venezuela. The motivation is diverse, but most of these countries have not respected democratic precepts. These sanctions are expected to strike the economies of those countries and force them to revise their positions.

Therefore, sanction is a formal mechanism, taken by governments or formal agencies of a state.
