in the 1850's, why did Harriet feel compelled to esort her escaped slaves all the way to St. Catherines?

    Answer: St. Catherine's is in Ontario, Canada and therefore did not have the same rules regarding slaves. The Fugitive Slave Law of 1850 was terminated as soon as a fugitive left the country.
