Should Andrew Jackson be remembered today as a hero for democracy?

Andrew Jackson is remembered as both a hero and a villain. Native Americans and African Americans said in a PBS special that Andrew Jackson was evil. The African American said that Jackson was evil because he would sentence a runaway slave to 300 lashes which would ruin the slave's health and cause sickness that he could not get better from.
