Women enter a period known as the climacteric at the age of 50 years. But it can begin also earlier (45 years) or later (55 years).

The period is also called menopause. It is the time in most women's lives with decrease in hormone production by the ovaries and when menstrual periods stop permanently. This means they are no longer able to bear children.
