In the case of Paolo Veronese’s painting - Feast in the House of Levi was at first planned for the dining hall of the Santi Giovanni e Paolo in Venice. He finished the painting in April 1573 but it was called before the Holy Tribunal in July to response charges of indecorum in his large painting. The features are the presence of buffoons, Germans, dwarfs, and drunkards.
