This is only my opinion, but I would say that the biggest contribution to forensic entomology was done by Jean Pierre Megnin. He did a lot of work on the succession of insects eating corpses, which allowed him to make pretty accurate estimates on the time of death of the person.

Jean Pierre Megnin was a French entomologist, who lived in 19th century. He is famous for his works with dogs and forensic entomology, was an expert in the fields of parasitology, cynology, hippology and legal entomology. He came up with a theory that could predict the times the insects would get to the body. According to this findings, you could tell the time of death based on the insects in the body.
