The main reason why Louisiana adopted France’s law structure was that Louisiana (including the whole Mississippi valley) was a French colony once and was a part of the New France. New France is the area of North America which which was colonized by France in 1534 during the period when the Gulf of Saint Lawrence was being explored by a Breton explorer Jacques Cartier.
