    Students for a Democratic Society (SDS) was formed in 1960 by members of the student branch of the League for Industrial Democracy (LID). it had its headquarters in Newyork, then later, Chicago. Thier aim was to organise campaigns which aimed at advocating for labor rights, better working conditions, and racism.

    During the Vietnam War (1954-1975), The SDS grew rapidly and protested against the US government and military.
