Regional boundaries are not usually set by laws or rules, but by major landforms. Places within a region share similar characteristics that are unique and clearly distinguished from places in other regions. The great example for this are The Rocky Mountains that serve as a landform and a natural boundaries between the West and Midwest and South West and South East.
