    Stefan Löfven, now Prime Minister of Sweeden, studied social work at Umeå University, but dropped out after a year and a half.

    Then, he started a welding course and after Military service, he began his career as a welder and he started getting into unions and politics.

    In 1981 he started taking an effective role in the Swedish Metalworkers' Union, laboring first as a store steward (1981-82) and then lifting through that group to mature a member of its national council, a delegate part of its governing committee, its vice president, and eventually the administrator of IF Metall, the union established by the consolidation of the Swedish Metalworkers' Union and the Swedish Industrial Union. In that meantime, Löfven further was a part of the governing committee of the Nordic Metalworkers' Union and a deputy member of the governing cabinet of the European Metalworkers' Federation.
