Following are the reasons how the invention of cotton gin caused slavery to go west: The invention of cotton gin simplified the process of removing the seeds from cotton. The overall simplification of the process made the cotton-growing farmers take more land under cultivation. The unused lands of the west were thus started being preferred by the farmers for growing cotton. Hence, to work on the cotton fields in the west, the farmers took slaves to the west.
