In Psychology, the three components that add together to form emotions are:

Psychophysiological Expressions: How parts of your body react once you are going through a psychological process. For example, the acceleration of your heartbeat upon seeing a snake next to you. Biological Reactions: Also known as Metabolism. Its the chemical reactions occurring in your body. For example, the body's production of adrenaline. Mental States: a Mental condition in which a person currently is. For example, love or hatred.

Once you go through a particular experience, your body will produce a series of psychophysiological expressions. At the same time, biological reactions will probably produce a certain type of hormone. The combination of these two components will make you enter a certain mental state.

Example: You meet a wild bear in the woods.

Your psychophysiological expression will be the acceleration of your heart. Your body will go through a biological reaction and produce adrenaline, which is known to be produced once a person goes into survival mode. Finally, the mental state that you are in is fear.
