Marital status is a vital demographic to city planning. The needs of couples and families within a residential area are significantly different than the needs of single individuals. With marriages come families and a greater need for schools, medical facilities and many other city resources. Having families in an area can also mandate restrictions on what types of businesses are allowed or not allowed.
