Processes in American history that have attempted to assimilate certain groups into "white society" have been criticized for the undertones of implying the racial superiority of whites and the lack of respect for other cultures and the United States' multicultural history. Native Americans have a long history with a diverse culture that has been attacked and attempted to be white washed through programs like this. Therefore, programs of cultural assimilation are usually heavily criticized and seen as unnecessary and morally wrong.
