The word 'theater' comes from the (Greek/Latin/French) word "théatron", which means "a place for viewing". Orson Welles' dramatized version of (M*A*S*H*/Star Wars/The War of the Worlds), broadcast on the radio in 1938, led many listeners to believe that aliens were invading our planet.
