Ribosomes are the site for biological protein synthesis that is composed of macromolecular machine for protein synthesis. In archaea they ribosomes comprise of three RNA molecules - 16S, 23S, and 5S. The archaeal ribosome is a 70S ribosome that is composed of 50S and 30 S subunits. The ribosomal binding site of archaeol ribosome may be similar to that of the bacteria, i. e. the Shine - Dalgarno sequence. However, the antibiotic sensitivity of the archaeal ribosome is different than those of bacteria as the r-protein sequence of the archaea are closer to that of eukaryote than the bacteria.
