Recently the classification system of life was changed to include not five but six kingdoms, as well as three domains. Earlier classification attempts were based on structural features, both current and fossilized. Today we supplement such findings with biochemical evidence to modify existing classification schemes. All BUT ONE of these is a reason to continue to use a framework on the history of life on Earth.
