The United States is one of the most overweight countries in the world, with about 69% of the adult population being either overweight or obese. The health risks associated with being overweight or obese have the potential to affect every system in the body and can be debilitating for the individual and costly for both the person and society. Describe the effects of overweight and obesity on health.

    The obesity and overweight are illustrated as the unusual or excessive accumulation of fats, which may hamper health. The BMI or the body mass index refers to a basic index of weight against the height, which is generally utilized to categorize obesity and overweight in adults. According to WHO, for adults overweight signifies towards the BMI more than or equal to 25, and obesity is marked by a BMI of more than or equal to 30.

    Both obesity and overweight are related to type II diabetes, thus, one of the major issues encountered by obese and overweight individuals is delayed healing of wounds. Other health consequences of obesity and overweight are digestive system cancers and a higher rate of arthritis.
