What accounts for water's properties of adhesion and cohesion?

    Adhesion and cohesion are due to the slight charges of the hydrogen and the oxygen which is what is known as polarity

    While the above answer is correct adhesion is also affected by hydrogen bonding which is formed in some molecules containing Hydrogen and either Fluorine, Nitrogen, or Oxygen.
