    Mendel conducted experiments on pea plants in order to study genetic heredity and also how dominate and recessive genes work. The punnet square was developed as a result of these experiments as a way the calculate the likely hood of dominate and recessive characteristics showing up in the off spring of any sexually reproductive organism.
