In the lab, Nachman examined dark mice from two different populations living hundreds of miles apart. The mice looked nearly identical. Their dark color was caused by two different genes. What does this tell you?

Several conclusions can be drawn from this observation;

1. The adaptation for fur colour in the mice from both location was similar, this could be because both environments have almost similar conditions.

2. It is also an indication that the dark fur colour may have evolved independently in both populations.

3. Two completely different mutations in two separate genes can generate the same phenotype.
